Slow Food Araba Recognises Taberna La Era

Nestled within the small Álava village of Escota, Taberna La Era has been granted a major accolade by Slow Food Araba during an official reception held at the Palace of the Álava Provincial Council. The venue was honoured as part of the “Sukaldarien Aliantza – Km0” (Chefs’ Alliance) initiative, a quality seal celebrating hospitality businesses that show an unwavering dedication to regional produce, sustainability, and the preservation of rural communities.

This award brings Taberna La Era under the global wing of the Slow Food movement—a culinary philosophy rooted in three core pillars: food that is good, clean, and fair. Following this milestone, the Escota-based eatery joins an exclusive network of 27 hospitality venues and 15 agroecological farms across Álava, strengthening its role as a destination that protects culinary biodiversity and highlights the vital work of the primary sector.

The award shines a spotlight on rural kitchens as genuine ambassadors for zero-mile ingredients. As noted during the ceremony, establishments like Taberna La Era serve as vital links that “recalibrate our relationship with food” by directly sourcing premium goods from the province’s farmers and livestock breeders. José Antonio Arberas, president of Slow Food Araba, along with Noemí Aguirre, provincial councillor for Agriculture, both stressed that this prize honours those who nurture the land and turn high-quality ingredients into remarkable dining experiences.

This recognition provides a fantastic drive for the hospitality sector across the Añana region, and particularly for the village of Escota, proving that tiny communities can actively shape the future of sustainable food. Taberna La Era firmly cements its status as a benchmark for the Km0 movement in Álava, ensuring that deep respect for local producers and environmental care are beautifully reflected on the plate with every dish.
